Sayed Chhattan Shah is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at Southern Illinois University, where he teaches advanced computing courses and directs the Mobile Distributed Computing Lab. His research focuses on advancing next-generation AI-enabled mobile distributed systems and transforming healthcare through innovative applications of artificial intelligence and IoT technologies.
He has over 12 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership across institutions in South Korea, United Kingdom, and Pakistan. Prior to joining SIU in August 2025, he was a Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University, where he led several modules, conducted research in edge computing and digital twins, and headed the HPC cluster team that supports research across the university. Before that, he spent a decade at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, serving as both Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. He has also held faculty appointments at Korea University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, and Hamdard University.
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Shah has substantial industry and applied research experience in both South Korea and Pakistan. He worked as a Senior Researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute in South Korea and as a Software Engineer at the National Engineering and Scientific Commission in Pakistan.
He earned his doctoral degree in Computer Science from Korea University in 2012 and holds a master’s degree in the same field from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, awarded in 2008.
Throughout his career, he has led and completed numerous research projects funded by organizations such as the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Ministry of Transport of Korea. He has secured external research funding twice as Principal Investigator and published over 60 peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Shah is actively involved in the broader research community. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and regularly serves as a Program Committee Member for international conferences. He has delivered talks at major venues such as IEEE Military Communications Conference in United States and Future Networks World Forum in Canada. He also reviews grant proposals for several national funding bodies, including Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in United Kingdom, National Research Foundation of Korea, and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
